I love bringing you guys creative, ethnic, out-of-the-ordinary new recipes to spice up your weekday or weekend meals.
But I also love making homey, comforting meals that remind me of good things.
This classic Apple Crisp (recipe from my mom) reminds me of helping mom serve Sunday lunch to large groups.
It reminds me of main meals of pot roast with earthy potatoes, tender carrots, buttery rolls and a fresh Italian salad.
It reminds me of antique family, colorful and floral china topped with a hefty spooning of tender, spiced apples topped with a sweet, oat crunch and a scoop of cream-colored vanilla ice cream melting over the top of it all and liquid cream coming down the side of it all like lava from a volcano.
Apple Crisp is always a good dessert and just so we’re clear, the vanilla ice cream on top is not optional.
It must be present to work as a texture and flavor foil to the crisp.
Also, the crisp must be warm and the ice cream cool so they melt together perfectly.
Just do it…you’ll thank me.
