Valentine’s Day can mean a lot of different things.
It can make you think of warm fuzzy feelings about your significant other. It may be a time when you frantically help your child fill out dozens of Valentine’s cards. Maybe you’re planning a special dinner out, baking something special or perfecting a killer cocktail.
Or maybe you’re not a big fan of the holiday and would like to make it meaningful somehow.
Let’s start there with meaning.
Let’s reframe Valentine’s with some new ways to show love.
1. Bake something with meaning
This may sound silly, but baking can actually be very welcoming and restorative. I know I love combining ingredients to make something comforting and yummy to eat and to share with my loved ones, a neighbor, coworkers, etc.
Might I suggest these:
2. Give something with meaning
Valentine’s is a great excuse to give to an organization or nonprofit that you’re passionate about. If you feel weird about buying into materialism on this holiday, this is a great way to give!
Might I suggest:
3. Buy something with meaning
If you’re buying something for yourself or a loved one, then there are plenty of options to buy something sustainable. Whether it’s a fair trade greeting card, piece of jewelry or bar of chocolate, there are lots of companies you can feel good about purchasing from.

4. Share something with meaning
This is a great day and week to share some encouragement with those you love!
This might come in the form of:
- Writing a thank you note to a friend
- Calling your parents or grandparents to check in
- Talking to a friend about your biggest dreams and worries
- Helping a family member Marie Kondo/organize their closet
5. Plan something with meaning
I don’t know about you, but planning things always inspires me. Whether it’s a dinner party, a trip or a weekend brunch, it can be so nice to dream into the future and plan something fun for you and others.
Dream some, make a plan and invite some friends or family along with you!
I hope you feel inspired and ready to add new meaning to your Valentine’s Day this year. If you try one of these ideas, I would love to hear about it!
