Normally, I don’t want to ask you to buy any special ingredients. I’m more of a “whatever is most likely in your pantry, use that” type of girl.
But, the good news is that you can invest in a new spice mix AND have it in your pantry for whenever you want to spice something up. I’m talking about za’atar!
It’s a super flavorful combo of dried thyme, oregano, marjoram and sesame seeds (though it may vary mix to mix). This Middle Eastern spice is just made for bread, dips and so much more!
And this to-die-for pizza!
I came up with this Za’atar Feta Pizza on a whim when I really wanted a feta pizza with some extra flavor and spice. It’s really easy, too. You make a simple garlic, red pepper infused oil, then slather than on your favorite pizza dough (we always use a Whole Foods prepared dough), sprinkle on a healthy amount of za’atar, then comes the mozzarella and feta.
Just wait until the cheese starts bubbling in the oven. Yum! Then, you can throw some arugula on top for health, along with a drizzle of olive oil.
It’s a nice mix between a flatbread and a pizza, and it’s got a lot to love.
Za’atar Feta Pizza
Get ready for a fun spin on pizza with a great spice mix in this Za'atar Feta Pizza.
Ingredients
- 1 prepared pizza dough
- 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
- 2 tbs. za'atar
- 1/2 cup feta
- 1/4 cup olive oil, plus extra for drizzling on top
- 2/3-1 cup shredded mozzarella
- dried chili flakes
- a few fresh thyme sprigs, de-stemmed (optional)
- salt and pepper, to taste
- arugula for topping (optional)
Instructions
-
Set oven to 450 degrees F and warm your pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven while it’s preheating.
-
Make a quick garlic oil by heating up olive oil in a small saucepan on medium heat. Add in sliced garlic, a few shakes of chili flakes and thyme leaves (if using), then cook for a few minutes to infuse the oil.
-
Next, roll out your pizza dough. Take your stone out of the oven and carefully transfer the rolled out dough onto it. Brush with garlic oil (it’s OK to get some garlic slices on the dough), then sprinkle with za’atar, mozzarella and feta. Finish with a sprinkle of sea salt and pepper.
-
Cook for 10-15 minutes or until bubbly and lightly browned. Take out of the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Then, slice and serve topped with arugula (if using) and a quick drizzle of olive oil.
