N.C. One Bite at a Time is a series in which I share about all of the new places that I’ve explored or eaten at in Raleigh, Durham or the surrounding areas.
Guys…This post is waaaay past due.
I’m not even sure how it’s been six months since an update on my whereabouts in the Triangle.
Seasons have passed, temperature have cooled, and there are so many new spots in the area that are on my list for 2017!
Let’s get to eating and exploring!
Person Street Pharmacy
I have had this downtown Raleigh spot on my to-eat list for a long time, so it was a treat to finally visit. This is the perfect place for a tasty lunch, a classic ice cream sundae or a creative fizzy drink. I was very impressed by my pimento cheese sandwich and sweet potato salad, paired with a homemade ginger beer!
Honeysuckle Tea House
While we were back visiting Haw River Brewery in Saxapahaw, we hopped on over to Honeysuckle Tea House in Chapel Hill, a 15-minute drive from the brewery. What a delightful spot to drink tea, study or just relax! It’s surrounded by trees, and it’s one of the few places where I’ve drank the tea right next to tea plants. How cool is that?!
NC Chinese Lantern Festival
Although it was quite cold and rainy when we visited, the NC Chinese Lantern Festival in Cary was a fun activity for a weeknight. This is a showcase of Chinese-inspired lights of all shapes, sizes and colors. I would especially recommend this light show for kids.
The Stag’s Head
Thanks to my husband’s coworkers, we’ve found a new thing to do on the occasional Wednesday night- trivia at The Stag’s Head on Glenwood Avenue. This is a fun spot to grab a nice stout or IPA, and answer some tricky questions with a group of friends.
Starrlight Mead
We got the chance to visit this meadery in Pittsboro for a friend’s birthday recently. I was so surprised by all they could do with honey wine. The flavors ranged from sour red currant to chai to spiced apple and plenty more. If you go, get a mead sampler so you can try lots of them!
The Haymaker
We decided to grab a few cocktails at this new bar in downtown Raleigh before my work Christmas party. I was really impressed by the fancy, eclectic decor and the quality of the drinks. I hope that I can try one of their punch bowls sometime!
Sam’s Quick Shop
This was a new Durham spot for us, and it’s a nice place to grab a beer and chill. They have a really solid selection on top and to buy.
Cinebistro
My husband and I have a new favorite movie theater in town, and it’s the Cinebistro in Cary. Although the movie tickets are a tad more expensive than most theaters, it is so worth it to be in the comfortable, reclining seats (which you get to choose when you buy your tickets). And, bonus, they offer food and drink to enjoy during the movie.
Viceroy
After hearing about this British pub with Indian food, I knew I had to go! Viceroy is in the heart of downtown Durham and offers a really fun selection of foodand drink. The garlic naan might be worth the trip alone. I also really enjoyed the Curry Shepherd’s Pie with lamb.
Royale
You might remember me mentioning Cafe Lucarne a few N.C. One Bite at a Times ago. Anyway, Royale is a brand-new French American bistro spot in City Market in downtown Raleigh, opened by the same minds behind Stanbury and Cafe Lucarne. We just went for my birthday and loved the exciting atmosphere, croquettes (mac and cheese, short ribs and potato), oranges salad with feta and mint, and some amazing ragu and mushroom pastas.
