By that title, you might think that we’re talking about the secret of the universe here.
And, no, I’m not offering the coordinates to the fountain of youth, but I am someone who is passionate about living well and living healthy. And I would say that I’ve learned a few thing over the years in this pursuit.
There is so much advice (books, blog posts, websites, etc.) to tell us what to eat, what not to eat, what to do and not to do.
I’m not here to give you guidance in that way, I’m just hoping to give you some, well, hope that you can make positive change in your life to be more healthy.
So, what’s the big secret you ask?
Here’s the one secret to living healthy: Do Something.
By that I mean dedicate yourself to taking steps to live healthier. Make it a goal to start living better now.
No matter who you are and what your vice is (soda, stress, doughnuts- not that those things are bad in moderation), conquering it starts with change.
As I just read in an email from Eat This Poem: Dream big. Start small.
Maybe you start meal planning with 1 night/week. Maybe you walk a few miles 1 night/week. Maybe you go to sleep 1 hour earlier.
A healthy life is made up of conscious decisions to better yourself and those around you.
So, what will you do first to start living healthier? You’re only 1 step away!
Here are a few ideas:
- Start a healthy recipe collection on pinterest, email, bloglovin or whatever you use
- Work out 1 day more than you usually do
- Switch from soda to seltzer
- Make more meals at home than you eat out
- Make a grocery list before you go to the store (and have a weekly/monthly budget- that might be a big one, but it’s totally doable)
- Choose fruit instead of a sweet dessert
- If you can’t give up sweets (like me), enjoy one as a treat one or two nights/week
- Go to the farmers market 1 day/week
- Choose something fresh over a packaged snack (take a bag of apples to your work fridge!)
- Take an Epsom salt bath once a week to destress
- Try a new vegetable or fruit
- Read a fun book
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator
