And we’re back again.
It’s been another two months since we explored what’s new and fun in Raleigh (and the surrounding areas).
This past weekend, my husband and I even celebrated our 1-year anniversary of moving to NC. I can’t believe it was just one year ago that we made the long journey from AR to NC. But, thankfully, we really love it here, and I’m looking forward to tons of NC adventures in the future.
So, here’s what has been up in my part of the Triangle recently:
Tasty Beverage Co.
I may have already mentioned Tasty before, but over the past year, it’s become one of our favorite stops to buy local and other great beers. And they even have a nice bar area for trying local brews.
Steel String Brewery
The next time you’re in Carrboro, you’ve got to have a beer at Steel String Brewery. We really enjoyed having some creative brews on their lovely patio over the Christmas holiday.
Duck Donuts
Although Baker’s Dozen in Cary still has my “donut” heart, Duck Donuts is new in the area and rolling out some pretty tasty dough. We enjoyed their cakey, risen donuts with cinnamon sugar and many other glazes.
Heavenly Buffaloes
Listen up, people. There’s a local wing shack in Durham, and it is great! From honey bbq wings to boneless buffalo to hot and salty waffle fries, this place has got some great flavors…and they use NC chickens!
Nasher Museum
I recently had the chance to introduce my husband to Duke, and we decided to stop at the Nasher Museum while we were in the area. If you’re into modern art, this is a great place to go!
Scratch
This was another one of our stops in Durham. Scratch Bakery has all kinds of delicious treats (sweet and savory) to choose from. We tried a chocolate sea salt galette, and it was wonderful.
Happy + Hale
I finally got around to trying the veggie-driven fare at Happy + Hale in downtown Raleigh. The salad was tasty, and I hope to explore their other lunch options sometime soon.
Tupelo Honey Cafe
Tueplo Honey is finally open in Raleigh (next to Cameron Village), and I’m pumped. I’ve only had their brunch (hello, massive sweet potato pancake), but I can already picture myself with friends enjoying happy hour on their porch.
State Farmers Market
I know that I’ve mentioned the State Farmers Market before, but I just want to remind you that there are still great root vegetables, herbs and tasty apples available for purchase!
Whole Foods
So, I know Whole Foods is not a new thing, but their birthday cake was new to me. My husband ordered a white cake with white buttercream icing (as per requested) for my big day, and I couldn’t believe how delicious it was. The cake was so moist, buttery and creamy, and it was well priced.
Crank Arm Brewing
Every time I go to Crank Arm, I find a new beer that I really love. They’ve got a lot of flavors and types to offer (mine was a winter warmer with cardamom, orange and ginger). This is a great place to get a drink in downtown Raleigh.
Garland
Restaurant Week a few weeks ago gave my husband and I the chance to check out Garland, an Asian-inspired restaurant downtown. I was so impressed with their offerings, and the presentation was beautiful. I had the moroccan hummus, pork rice bowl and chocolate covered honeycomb candy.
Wine Authorities
Wine Authorities has become a new Tuesday evening stop for my husband and I. They’ve got fabulous free wine tastings each Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday afternoons. They also have a nice cheese selection and other local products to offer.
Lake Lynn
I love finding new trails and scenic exercise spots in the area, so I was thrilled to finally have a chance to check out Lake Lynn this past weekend. If you’re looking to burn some calories or just have a nice leisurely walk around some beautiful scenery and wildlife, I highly recommend this area.
