Summer is an exciting time in the culinary world. With nicer weather and fresh produce abounding, there’s a lot to do and eat.
I’m sure it’s this way in your city, too.
Here in North Carolina, and in Raleigh where I live, farm-to-table and food-related events are going on like all of the time.
So, for this reason, I thought I might share a few things that are on my food calendar for the beginning of June, whether I’ll end up going to them or not (sadly, I don’t have endless food funds).
Sunday, June 1
Yelp’s Passport to City Market – The kickoff to this month-long event (free if you RSVP and bring a little donation) sounds like a fun time for eating, drinking and celebrating summer in City Market in downtown Raleigh.
June 2-8
I’m super excited about Triangle Restaurant Week coming up! This week celebrates the local food culture with 3-course lunches (for $15) and dinners (for $20-30) at dozens of restaurants in each city in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, etc.). I’ve already got a reservation to eat at Bida Manda, and I really want to do a lunch at Watt’s Grocery. Since I’m already stretching my eating out budget, I’ll probably stop there.
Saturday, June 7
It’s still hard for me to believe that I live in a place with fresh seafood (well, pretty fresh considering the coast is only a few hours away). The NC Fresh Catch event in downtown Raleigh sounds like a great way to try some of that delicious seafood cooked in various styles and enjoy outdoor fun and music.
Sunday, June 8
The Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo is back for another Sunday early afternoon food truck fiesta in downtown Raleigh. Get ready to sample some tasty fare, from bbq to burgers to mac & cheese to dumplings.
This Farm to Fork dinner sounds amazing! Sadly, I can’t afford it, but maybe you can and want to check it out?!
Saturday, June 14
I’ve heard a lot of great things about Low Country Boils, and doing one in Pullen Park in Raleigh sounds like an even better idea! If you’re interested, check out the SouthEast Crab Fest page.
For more events in the Triangle, I like to stay updated with the Triangle Food Blog, The Triangle Explorer and the Visit Raleigh blog.
