It’s the week and month of love.
We’re all thinking about buying gifts for our loved ones or chocolates for ourselves and planning romantic dates.
I love celebrating love. It’s such a special blessing to have love in your life. Love from family, friends and significant others.
This is also a great time to remember far-reaching love.
In our world (which is much much bigger than my little world), many people do not get the love they deserve. They do not wake up feeling loved and seeing a bright future.
And this Valentine’s season, I encourage you to extend the reach of your love by helping out an organization that is fighting to give love to children who are caught in the dark and awful cycle of sex trade.
Whenever the founder of Love146 spoke at my church, he pointed out that sex slavery is a $32 billion dollar industry, which is half of what we spend on one day…Valentine’s Day.
Wow! Maybe we could all spare a few dollars that would have been spent on a stuffed animal or box of crappy chocolates and give to one of the above organizations to help give a young person freedom, hope, a future and the love they deserve.
At Love146, I’ve started a Donation Page just for you blog readers to help me reach a goal of $250 to fight sex slavery in the month of February. I just need 7 more donations of $25 to get there! All you have to do is click on that “Donation Page” link, click Donate, pick your donation amount and you’re a click away from helping children all over the world.
Check out these other organizations, too:
I would also encourage you to get educated on what this slavery looks like in our modern day. I know this is not an easy topic to read about, but I believe awareness is the first step in fighting something.
11 Facts About Human Trafficking
My friend Grace’s blog, Living with A-Holts, is a great place to find info and ways to contribute in her Free Trade Fridays Series.
And I suggest reading this article on What It Takes to Free a Sex Slave. Although I wish it was super easy to solve this problem, this article opened my eyes to the long-term fight but also how much we owe the people working day-to-day to free these kids.
Lastly, I would ask you to pray for and give to such organizations as listed above, especially with my Love146 fundraiser.
(Also, there are cool websites like Made By Survivors where you can buy goods made by people freed from sex slavery. And there’s even a part of eBay called Giving Works where you can sell an item and give the proceeds to a charity like Love146!)
Are there any organizations you support or ways that you fight the injustice of sex slavery?
