Recently I purchased some of my usual Arkansas Black apples and was saddened to find that they were mealy and not so tasty.
I was especially bummed since they didn’t come with a cheap price tag. And I guess I should have known that their season has come and gone.
So, determined not to waste these apples, I decided to use them to make my Quick Applesauce.
I know that I already shared this recipe on here a year ago, but I think it’s worth revisiting.
I’ve loved having this recipe over the past year to make less-than-great, mealy apples taste delicious and sweet. I also just made it with whole cinnamon sticks and love the enhanced cinnamon flavor.
And here’s another simple tip thanks to my friend, food enthusiast and gardener Tiffany Selvey.
When you peel and core the apples before making the applesauce, save them and put them in a jar with filtered water. Then, set the jar in a cool, dark place and after a few weeks filter out the apple pieces and you’ll have homemade apple cider vinegar.
I forgot to peel my apples and save the cores last time, but next time I can’t wait to try that trick!
Happy Simple Saturday!
